The homeownership system is broken. While housing options continue to be developed under the mask of “affordable housing,” only a small fraction of affordable housing developed is actually housing for homeownership. Rental properties constitute more than 90% of affordable housing in Pennsylvania, perpetuating an economic wedge between those who are able to overcome the hurdle of attempting homeownership and those without that ability. Renters do not feel as if homeownership is an attainable goal for them, so it is never considered.
LEVEL is the long-term solution to address housing inequity and facilitate dignified, affordable homeownership opportunities for existing residents who currently rent in communities.
